Test Case 7: Southeast Regional Prescribed Fires

last modified Jun 05, 2009 12:13 PM

Description of and information on Test Case 7 "Southwest Regional Rx"

Description

Multiple prescribed burns over a region for a prescribed fire season.  The best domain and months for this case are still under investigation and subject to change based on the availability of prescribed fire information.   We are working with Southern Research Station to determine data sources.  This case is important because of the shear quantity of prescribed burning done in the South.

Purpose

To examine the prescribed fire use case for the area in which prescribed fire is most prevalent.

Analysis

Model-to-model primarily.

Some locations can possibly be compared with collected observational data at certain output levels (e.g. FUEL LOADING, TOTAL CONSUMPTION).

Time and space scales:

  • Southeast U.S. (domain to be determined)
  • 1 prescribed fire season (dates to be determined)

Model runs

Output levels

  • FUEL LOADING through SPECIATED EMISSIONS

Input data

  • Fire information: location, total size, duration
  • Meteorological data
Intermeditate initialization data
FUEL LOADING, SPECIATED EMISSIONS will be available for initialization of further steps.

Guidelines

  • No restrictions unless comparing with observational data;  then model must be independent of observational data.

  • Runs starting with FUEL LOADING or SPECIATED EMISSIONS must use test case intermediate data.

Status

In progress

Notes

For best results duration of prescribed fire should be known.
