SEMIP Proposal Figure 2: Modeling steps in calculating emissions inventories and smoke impacts from fire.  In different modeling systems, some steps can be performed in a different order or linked (as in coupled meteorology/chemistry models).  The area covered by SEMIP Phase 1 is shown in gray—other steps (e.g., fire growth models) may be included in later phases.  All models with outputs at a given step are compared and evaluated (e.g., models B and C for total emissions), and models that do not start at the top can be included by linking with other output (e.g., model combinations D w/B and D w/C can be compared with A and B for later steps).  Specific models to be included in Phase 1 are listed by output type on the far right.
