Understanding weather and climate as they relate to forests and fire.

Tripod fire from Winthrop

Welcome

Welcome to the new AirFire website.  If you have been to our website before, you will notice that it has changed significantly.  You may also have noticed that it was not available, or barely available for several months.  AirFire suffered a serious computer setback late last autumn, and we are still recovering.  This has taken a substantial amount of our scientists’ time to remedy.

When our some of our key computers failed, we made the decision to shut down the whole system.  This allowed us to make some needed updates that would have disrupted our web products in any case, at the same time we replaced the failed components.  The rebuilt system will, we believe, allow our research efforts and web-based tools to be more stable, easier to maintain, and faster.

On the right, please find a list of commonly used products and tools and their current status. ->

Our first and foremost obligation is to fulfill our various research commitments.  In order to do this, we have made restoring the computers needed for research our first priority.  Certain tools with known and expressed user demand, such as the BlueSky smoke simulations for the Pacific Northwest, the Ventilation Climate Information System (VCIS), and the Haines Index Climatology, are the next priority.  Other daily products will be restored as quickly as possible.

We apologize for the delay and reduction of available tools or information.  Please be assured, we have done and are doing everything we can to provide a better, more reliable and more useful web presence.
